Using the HP Laserjet 404 with TSPE

HP has released a specific firmware version for the HP Laserjet 404 for use with the TSPE solution. Please follow the steps outlined below to use the HP 404 Laserjet printer with TSPE.

  1. Download the required files: HP 404 Configuration For TSPE.zip
  2. Extract the zipped files.
  3. Run HP_LaserJet_Pro_M404_M405_series_FW_920_2017D.exe as administrator and follow the manufacturer's instructions for updating the firmware on the target printer.
  4. Copy the directory HP 404 from the unzipped files to C:\Program Files\TROY Group\Port Monitor\Baseline or the appropriate path to your TSPE \Baseline folder.
  5. Restart the Troy Port Monitor Service (Note: This will result in a momentary downtime for prescription printing while the service restarts).
  6. Run TroySecurePortMonitorConfigurationUtility as Administrator (Right click > Run as administrator).
  7. Select the TroyPort associated with the HP 404 print queue.
  8. Select the Pantograph tab.
  9. Click the Standard Pattern Adjustment button.
  10. In the Load from Baseline Settings: dropdown box select HP 404.
  11. Click the Load button.
  12. Click the Ok Button.
  13. Click the Save Button.
  14. Repeat steps 3 and 7-13 for each HP 404 printer that will be used with TSPE

The Firmware update and TSPE configuration can be completed in any order. You can update all printers to the firmware before configuring TSPE or configure TSPE before loading the printer firmware.

The firmware provided is a special release from HP to address print quality issues with the HP Laserjet 404 in direct relation to TSPE. At this time HP has not indicated that this fix will be included in future firmware releases for the HP 404. Do not update the 404 to newer firmware without first consulting TroyRx support.We would recommend that customers un-check the auto HP firmware update feature through the devices EWS.
