How to Capture Print Files

Capturing the incoming and outgoing print streams can be a useful tool in troubleshooting TSPE or EMR input issues. Follow the steps below to enable print file capture.

  1. Run the Troy Secure Port Monitor Configuration Utility (Right Click > Run as Admin)
  2. Select the port you will be printing to from the drop down menu
  3. Select the Error Logging Tab
  4. Check the Enable Error Logging checkbox
  5. In the Save Data Files Path field type the word "Default"
  6. Save and restart the Troy Port Monitor Service
  7. Print a prescription sample to the printer connected to the port selected in step 2
  8. Navigate to the port folder (the default is C:\Program Files\Troy Group\Port Monitor\PrintPortX where X is the number of the Troy Port)
  9. Inside the Backup directory there will be a .prn file and possibly a .bak file. The .prn file is the incoming print job and the .bak file is the print job after it has been processed by TSPE.

Make sure to disable Error Logging once troubleshooting is complete, to ensure you do not continue to capture prescriptions as they are printed.
