Creating A New Print Agent / Virtual Printer

Print Agents are used in conjunction with the desktop or server print client to create virtual printer objects and control secured document processing and routing. You only need to configure Print Agents if you are using the print client to facilitate the secured document process. New Print Agents are created by clicking the +New Print Agent button on the Settings>Print Agents menu and completing the necessary fields.

Print Agent Name: A unique name that will be used to identify the Print Agent. This is also the name the Print Client will use to create the virtual print queue in Windows. This is the print queue users will print to for processing secure prescriptions through the system.

Computer Name: This list contains the names of all machines which have the Print Client installed. Select the appropriate machine that the virtual print queue should be installed on (i.e. the computer or print server users will be printing from when creating the secured document).

If you are using multiple servers for load balancing / redundancy you can select multiple computers by clicking +. The destination printers must be names identically on each server selected.

Assigned Security Templates: Select the appropriate security template from the drop down menu. Click the + button to add additional security templates to the print agent. Templates will be processed based on their order in the Assigned Security Templates list and according to their Print Match rules.

Printer Output:  The physical printer queue that the secured document should be sent to once processing is complete. The printers shown are the available print queues of the machine selected under Printer Name.

Enable File Output: Enabling this checkbox will save a copy of the secured document as a PDF.

Saving a PDF copy of patient prescriptions introduces additional security and HIPAA concerns and is NOT recommended by TROY Security Solutions.

Output File Path: The directory that the backup copy of the secured document PDF should be output to. This directory structure must be valid for the machine listed under Computer Name.
File Name Format String:  The file name format that should be applied to the secured pdf. Metadata can be added to the File Name field using the Add Metadata field to the right of this field.

Defining Static TCP Port (Required for Meditech as a Service installations): Navigate to the Window Properties tab and define the TCP Port in the Port field. It is a good practice to also add the TCP Port Number to the Comments field for easy reference on the print server.
